A brilliant Bloomsday to ye!
The 442 pages of James Joyce's Ulysses takes place over one day... June 16th. Therefore, every year we celebrate "Bloomsday", named after one of the main characters in the story, Leopold Bloom. This is a day to celebrate the life and writing of one Mr. Joyce and events occur on this day in Dublin and all throughout the world to commemorate the beloved author. Joyce selected June 16th for Ulysses as it was the date of his first date with his (eventual) wife, Nora Barnacle.

"Ain't nobody got time for that!"
I recently discovered that Taystee on Orange is the New Black feels some kind of way about Ulysses. She and I appear to be kindred spirits. Right on, Taystee! I really need to watch Orange is the New Black. I read the book years ago... it was one of those ones I just picked up because I liked the cover. And then began reading it and realized that it's about the prison in the town I was born in (one town over from where I grew up and currently live). I highly recommend th

As I've mentioned before, The Giver by Lois Lowry is one of my favorite books. A distinction that is hard-won seeing as I feel it's like picking your favorite child. Because of that, I am so excited about this! #thegiver #loislowry

BookCon 2014!
On May 31st, booknerds and YA fangirls alike converged on the Javits Center in NYC to oooooh and squee over panels, autograph signings and publisher booths at the inaugural BookCon. And for their very first time out, it was a madhouse. Scoring John Green mere days from the theater release of The Fault in Our Stars probably helped. Every teenager girl who owns an Okay? Okay. or Pizza John shirt was there to represent. Here are just a few pics of the convention floor. I wil

DFTBA... ditto
I still owe you guys a post about BookCon 2014, but this happened yesterday and it's one of the coolest things that has ever happened to me. So, I'll start with a little story for ya.
Yesterday morning, I read this article in The New Yorker:
The Teen Whisperer: How the author of The Fault in Our Stars built an ardent army of fans.
I was really moved by the realistic way Margaret Talbot portrayed John Green, his brother Hank and the Nerdfighter community that was born
Hachette vs Amazon... the war continues
If you don't live under your porch, it's likely that you've heard about the widely publicized dispute betweenAmazon and Hatchette Book Group. If you do live under your porch, here's a brief synopsis. Amazon is, well, Amazon. They currently control 50% of all US book sales. Hatchette, while not Amazon's size, is one of the 5 largest publishing houses in the US. Amazon and Hatchette are currently at a standstill in negotiations... (it's likely this stall is about pricing, par
