How to stomach children's programming
As the mother of an almost-two year old, I find my living room reverberating with the sweet melody of Barney's Don Knott-esque voice, by O the Owl's inability to relate to people outside of a book, and and by Husband's rants that the gang at Chuggington Station are all so useless that they should be sent to the junkyard and made into razor blades. And seeing as Lorelai started walking at 10 months, sometimes the only time I'm guaranteed not to have to run interference between

I can do it! I can do it!
This weekend, Husband and I took Lorelai for her first trip to our cabin in upstate New York. Generally the cabin is an opportunity to get in 48 hours of reading, only interrupted by consuming mass quantities of alcohol and Cool Ranch Doritos. Not so much with a 14 month in tow. So, you'd think that in the few minutes I could sneak some reading in, I'd be more apt to read something "fun". But guys, I'm maturing! Unlike Lorelai Gilmore, this Lorelai likes the outdoors Inst

Another sucker thrown into this mess...
"I don't even like kids. They're always sticky like they've got jam on their hands. Even if there's no jam in the house, somehow, they've always got jam on their hands! I'm not the right guy to deal with that. I have no patience for jam hands! " Well, Luke... looks like you have some Welch's Grape smeared all over your furniture in your future! Welcome to the world, Nicholas! #scottpatterson #baby #lukedanes
Update on Ulysses
I am on page 261 of 783. If I knew how to do even basic math, I would tell you what percentage that is (yay for Kindles!) Looking at where I am in the book, I'd say it equates to about 1/3 done. My method seems to be working really well, although I had to banish myself to the bedroom last night because it turns out that it's impossibly difficult to give a shit what Leopold Bloom is doing when Walter White and Jesse Pinkman are cooking blue meth in your living room. I thin

PBS Kids brings the thunder!
To my fellow book lovers, if you have a child, I highly recommend this show. Super Why! is a PBS Kids show that celebrates the power of reading by following The Super Readers through various classic tales as they solve puzzles and play games. The show is completely book-centric (the show starts off in a library, their headquarters is called "The Book Club" and is in the shape of a giant book...) and you know I'm trying to force this on Lorelai so I can convince her that it's

Time to review episode 20!
Sooooo close to finishing season 1! #baby

Booknerd Santa makes another trip down the chimney!
My wonderful friend Sharon is one of most treasured PIC (partners in crime. Go watch Roles Models right now, you slackers!) when it comes to book-learnin'. Although I believe I'm pretty passionate when it comes to reading... one short conversation with her and I'm all revved up about the glory that is the written word and I usually walk away with another 300-or-so must reads added to my list.
So I was so touched (and excited. BearAllen loves her some prezzies!) when Shar

Christmas Haul!
I hope you all had a very merry Christmas! I poured lots of Captain Morgan into my eggnog with my father-in-law, I ate my weight in my mother-in-law's famous cinnamon buns and I received gift cards that will enable me to continue my Starbucks and Sephora addictions.I also got some awesome book-y presents from people who know me well. Figured I'd share! And as a bonus, here are a few pics of Lorelai opening her own bookish gifts from Santa Claus! I think they were a hit (th
