Violet gets Tony noms!

As I mentioned last week, I had the pleasure of seeing Sutton Foster's latest musical, Violet, on Saturday. Based on the story The Ugliest Pilgrim by Doris Betts (author of Beasts of the Southern Wild), Violet is a story about a young woman's journey to be healed of her disfigurement. Along the way, she meets two men who will prove to mean more to her than she could ever imagine. Growth and healing come in forms that Violet never expected when she hopped on that Greyhound bus. Not only is Sutton Foster (Bunheads) the lead, but the show is produced in association with Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino. So you know that perfection was forthcoming. And apparently The 68th Annual Tony Awards agreed! Early this morning (I was receiving texts from a friend about them already at 8:09am), it was announced that Violet (Best Revival of a Musical), Sutton Foster (Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical) and Joshua Henry (Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical) all received nominations for this years Tony Awards! These noms come on the heels of Violet's good showing last week in the announcement of the Drama Desk nominations! As I'd love to be able to say I saw a Tony-award winning show (especially one with the fabulous Sutton Foster), I'll be pulling for the cast and crew of Violet, Sutton and Joshua on June 8th! If you are interested in seeing Violet, check out The Roundabout's website. If you would like to see the announcement of the 2014 Tony Award nominees, check it out below!
