"It's the assignment."

The second book mentioned in the history of Gilmore girls is The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain. A classic for sure... and sadly, a classic I've never read. In fact (and I am embarrassed to admit this), this is my first Twain (we'll speak of Rory's first Melville shortly). As Mark Twain was a Connecticut native (his hometown was one town over from my own), I feel that this is a fitting book to read early on in this challenge! I've always lumped The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer together in my head. And apparently, with good reason. These two books tell one continuous story. Therefore, although Tom Sawyer is not mentioned in Gilmore girls, I believe it's important that I begin with this book... to ensure that I get the most out of this reading challenge. Hop on a raft and let's sweep down the mighty Mississippi with Tom and Huck!
