I was in the process of writing a post about Tolstoy and candles (I swear I'm not high... you'll see what I mean later), I had to quickly Google something and was excited to come across this! I instantly recognized Gregor Samsa from our reading of The Metamorphosis. Hovering over the image, I was informed that today happens to be Franz Kafka's 130th birthday. [P.S. Damn... I love Google Doodles! It's always a better day when there's a Google Doodle!] #franzkafka #themetamor
Today would've been the 121st birthday of the man ultimately responsible for Peter Jackson's career. I wish I could say I'm a huge Tolkien fan. I've never even seen The Lord of the Rings movies (much to the chagrin of a few of my geekier friends). I also tried, by the urging of my stepmom, to read The Hobbit like 30 times as a young girl and just couldn't give a crap about Bilbo Baggins. But recently I've thought about giving The Hobbit another try. Hey, Dickens and I ca
Mr. Google is always teaching me something new! Today, I learned that December 20, 2012 celebrates the 200th anniversary of Grimm's Fairy Tales. Head on over to Google today and you'll get to journey through the tale of Little Red Riding Hood! And for your reading pleasure, here's a great article about Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm. http://www.csmonitor.com/Innovation/2012/1220/The-real-Brothers-Grimm-were-stranger-than-fiction #grimmbrothers #fairytales #googledoodle #birthday
In celebration of BW&R's one year anniversary, I decided to do a giveaway (like a real, fancy-like blog). And the lucky winner? (drumroll please... "that sounded more like a helicopter)KAYLA!Her comment: I love Gilmore Girls. Did you ever have a mattress that just wouldn't die? Kayla (and her great Gilmore girls references) wins this awesome mug (I have one myself and let me tell you... coffee tastes even more delicious when enjoyed out of it!) Miss Kayla, please take a momen
...ME! Well, okay... Happy one year anniversary to The Black, White & Read Book Challenge. We did it! We made it a full year. Seeing as we're about halfway through season one after after a full 365 days, I've estimated that it will take me approximately 14 years to complete this challenge. I'll be 44 years old when I finish the very last book on the list. Aldeux probably wont even be alive anymore... he'll have been replaced with some sort of hard drive where I can downlo
In episode six of the first season, we're invited to celebrate the 16th birthday of one Miss Lorelai Leigh Gilmore. Emily, in yet another misguided good intention, invites all of Chilton to a formal birthday party for Rory held at the Gilmore estate. At this time, the idiots at Chilton are completely unaware of how awesome our girl is, so Rory is dreading this event. She keeps this fact from her mother, as Lorelai and Emily seem to be getting along for the first time in...
Today we celebrate the birthday of beloved cartoonist, poet and children's author, Theodor Seuss Geisel... better known to the world as Dr. Seuss. We all grew up with his witty and whimsical creations... we wanted to spend rainy days with The Cat in the Hat and save the trees with The Lorax. His words and characters have become a part of our lexicon and each new parents passes down their love of Dr. Seuss to their own children. In this way, Dr. Seuss will live on forever.
Google is really impressing me lately with their celebration of the birthdays of famous authors. Like on Mark Twain's birthday, Google has changed their artwork to celebrate today's birthday boy... If Charles Dickens was alive today, he'd be blowing out 200 candles! Happy Birthday, Chuck! #charlesdickens #birthday
He's handy, funny, smart, and real. He enjoys the outdoors, he's "manly" in the traditional sense... but he also appreciates the finer things in life. He's a Renaissance man... he knows a little something about EVERYTHING (it's actually a little obnoxious). He makes me love him and drives me nuts all within the same sentence.
And he's all mine!
Happy Birthday to my very own Luke Danes! #birthday
